AutoCAD is general CAD tool that not focus any particular industry.

AutoCAD Mechanical - More focus on providing specific tools to create manufacturing design related drawings/details. Which for components, equipment, machine part going to manufacture. And not intend to give detailing layout design of mechanical system or building. And has bill of material environment to create BOM/part list.

AutoCAD Electrical -  Mainly targeting the electrical controls design, electrical schematic, electrical panel layout and coordinating between schematic to control panel this is where AutoCAD Electrical will help. And capable in BOM generation

Both AutoCAD Mechanical/Electrical consist of intelligent components/symbol & standard parts specific to industry. That can be easily use/customize within the drawing.
